Day 3

Boston, MA

Tuesday, February 28

I know I know, I’m a day late. I’ll try to post day 4 later today as well. After an awesome time in Stratford we drove to Boston where we were going to stay at the beautiful Kupferberg dwelling in Cambridge. Leo and his mom brought us to a favorite Boston bakery called Flour where most of the group got some Chicken Tikka Masala Naan sandwiches (they were crazy good).

Luke, Ian, and Varun made a stop at the Pace household on their way to Boston, but the rest of the group followed our resident Bostonian, Leo, for a little tour through some of the city. The original plan was to go to an outdoor ice skating rink, but unfortunately the freezing rain ruined those plans. Not to fret, Leo knows where to go! We made a few stops at city hall, a Ben Franklin statue (not actually Ben Franklin, but for some reason all of us associated Boston with Ben Franklin so we pretended) and a municipal center before getting to Quincy Market, probably the most touristy part of the city. Leo also showed us how to use the train (the “T” as they call it in Boston).

The other car met up with us and we visited a record store and bakery. Neither of them let us sing for a discount even though that’s the G-Men specialty :(. It was then time for the first show of the tour, “The Acappellics Boogie with The G-Men” at Emerson University. The Acappellics put on a great show and we were able to sing a bunch of songs including our ICCA set (without choreo), Candyman, Loving You Easy, and Sledgehammer. Yes, Loving you easy and Sledgehammer are technically retired arrangements, but they’re bangers and we needed something. Also, shoutout to Thomas for percing for the Acappellics sine their perc couldn’t make it tonight. He learned all of their music within a day or two and crushed it!

After the show, the Acappellics took us to New York Pizza to eat and get to know each other a little better. Thank you so much to the Acappellics for putting on a great show and showing us a great time at Emerson! Some of us went back to Leo’s house to get some rest while some of the 21+ G’s went to try out some of the Boston bars. Ian, Max, and I went to a bar called the draft for a fun game of pool and then we met up with Derek, Brett, and Sam to hit up a nearby karaoke bar. I really wish I had pictures of this place because it was crazy. Derek described it as 30th century Japan. It had fog machines, bubbles falling from the ceiling, crazy bright neon LED lights, and a nice stage. Although most of us signed up for a song, there was a long line and I was the only one who’s name got called before it got late and we wanted to head bac (I sang “Bet On It” from High School Musical 2, obviously).

The next morning some of us went on a Harvard tour guided by Leo again where we went to a nice café called Tatte for brunch and even got to see Leo’s high school. We finished the tour and packed up the cars for UConn! Boston was such an amazing city and a lot of us were there for the first time. Thank you to the Kupferberg’s for hosting us, we are so grateful for everyone that has made this tour possible!
